Morning Dew #22

God my Eyes

“I spy . . .What do I spy?” Is a children’s game that could become a precious habit.

As we go about life what sights grab our attention and engage our wonder? “Look and live” is what Moses told the ailing Israelites.  Moses says it is in looking that we will come alive. A. W. Tozer states that scientists stop to examine while believers stop to worship.

So what will hold our gaze today? The store-windows or the eyes of the beggar, the face of the angry defiant child, the drooping shoulders of the hopeless, the pain-racked body of the sick?

To gaze into these needy faces is to gaze on Christ who stands among “the least of these” weeping with and for them. As we gaze, Christ like a tuning-fork, brings us into empathy with the feelings of others. We gaze not to criticize but in reverence we come alive, to willingly act for Jesus by providing food for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, and kind encouraging words for the despondent.

Dear Lord, help me to “spy” You in the faces of the unlovely, lonely, and uncared-for. Teach me to care. I am  unable to do this on my own please do it through me. Amen

  1. Jesus said: “The poor you will always have with you!”
It is our duty to recognize those around us, who are in need. It also behooves us to identify the talents and God given gifts that we can share to administer comfort.

It is in helping others, that we help ourselves to become more conscious of our own need for growth in grace, and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, we can daily grow!
