Morning Dew #27

God, my Burden-bearer

I’m talking feces, dung this week! On or near feces sources you can find dung beetles. They start with small pieces of dung then they roll it back and forth until it grows into huge balls well over 10 times their own weight. They work at night and are very protective of their dung-balls.

Enough! I agree. But do we operate like dung beetles lugging burdens that we refuse to share? Medical statistics indicate that worry and  anxiety have sky-rocketed among all age groups. We fear rising crime, death, peer rejection, job insecurity, and sometimes the unexplainable foreboding about the unknown. We experience palpitations, rapid breathing, sweating, trembling, trouble concentrating, and trouble sleeping. For the outside-world we wear a smile while inside we are suffering.

One more thing, dung beetles navigate by the stars. Hmm . . . outsource my problems? “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7; or “The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear?” Psalm 27:1; or choose a safe person/ a friend to share the burden.

Dear Lord, I want to trust You with my load. Please help me this week to find a safe place to unburden myself.  Amen

  1. There are lessons for us to be found in all areas of God’s creation. This was an especially unusual one, but very well dung!
