God, my Omega

In worshipful pursuit of God we create imposing images to elevate thought, resplendent monuments to enshrine His glory, and breathtakingly magnificent buildings in which to worship Him.

However, there is cause for caution. Our worship and pursuit of God should not block but amplify our awareness of fellow travelers on this odyssey of life.  To ignore our fellow traveler is to miss the God we pursue since He chooses to walk beside the humblest of travelers calling to us for respect and comradeship.

The Jericho Road story is of devout men who, in their zealous pursuit of God and the temple, missed God by ignoring their responsibility to meet the desperate needs of their fellow traveler.

God is glorified by the magnificence of Solomon’s temple, the genius of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel frescos, and the simplicity of the wood-carver’s Praying Hands; but He also calls us to a worship that recognizes our brother’s needs as God’s concern and his pain as God’s anguish.

Tuesday, June 20 is Global Refugee Awareness Day. May our prayer be:

Loving God,We pray for the world’s refugees. We give you thanks for their courage and resilience. We know that many have experienced trauma and loss.Loving God, bring them healing. As they endure and persist,Loving God, bring them strength. In the face of uncertainty and doubt.Loving God, bring them hope. For those rebuilding new lives in foreign lands,Loving God, bring them joy.We think of the countries from which they come.Loving God, bring them peace.Lord God, may we love as you love.

May we not be wearied by the sorrow, tragedy, and loss around us, but rather, may we become vehicles of your peace. May we work with you to sow healing, hope, joy, and strength so that we may be a light to our refugee brothers and sisters.Amen.
